Hafizuddin Ahmed says BNP may take good AL men

BNP Standing Committee Member Major (retd) Hafizuddin Ahmed announced his party would accept former Awami League members who demonstrate good character, though existing BNP leaders will maintain their positions. Speaking at a political gathering in Tazumuddin upazila of Bhola, he explained the party must expand its membership and would welcome individuals from the banned organization who have not caused harm to others.

Ahmed warned that refusing quality candidates could drive them toward rival political groups that might oppose BNP. He noted the party may remove some current activists lacking proper conduct while adding respectable former Awami League supporters. The standing committee member cautioned that a religion-based party was attempting to postpone elections scheduled for February, claiming it recognizes its inability to secure victory.

Ahmed alleged that supporters of Jamaat-e-Islami have occupied senior positions at public universities and government offices following the uprising that removed the Awami League from power. He emphasized that BNP depends solely on voter support rather than bureaucratic or interest groups.
