Harare Court Orders Return of Activists' Tech

A court in Harare has ordered the police to return the phones and laptops of three activists. Namatai Kwekweza, Robson Chere, and Samuel Gwenzi were arrested in July. The police said they caused trouble on a plane.

The activists were going to a meeting in Victoria Falls on July 31, 2024. But they were taken off the plane at the airport in Harare. The police took their phones and laptops.

The activists' lawyers asked the court to order the police to return their things. The court agreed and ordered the police to return the devices.

The police say the activists broke the law in June. They think the activists were part of a protest at the court in Harare. The protest was about some opposition leaders who were in jail.

Kwekweza, Chere, and Gwenzi say they didn't do anything wrong. They are out of jail for now but must return to court soon.

The court will decide if the charges against them are fair. The ruling will happen on December 9, 2024. Other activists will also be in court with them.

Zimbabwe has many problems between the government and people who don't agree with it. This case shows that things are still tough in the country.
