Harare Homebuyers Caught in Brutal Land Grab War

Two companies fight over land rights in Mabvuku's Donnybrook Chizhanje area. Shelter Zimbabwe and Highserv Payscheme both claim Harare City Council gave them the same property. People bought houses there for $ 11,000 to $ 14,000 each. The buyers feel scared about losing their homes and money. Harare City Council stays silent about the problem.

Shelter Zimbabwe sent letters telling residents to leave the area immediately. The company says it legally received the land from city officials. They threaten to tear down houses if people refuse to move out. Residents must buy new permits or leave before the month's end—court papers back up their eviction demands.

Highserv Payscheme strongly disputes these claims. They say the city cancelled Shelter Zimbabwe's lease in November 2021. The company insists that they legally received the land after the cancellation had occurred. Documents prove their legal ownership of the disputed property. Homeowners should ignore the eviction threats, according to Highserv.

Mayor Jacob Mafume sent reporters to the council spokesperson for answers. Stanley Gama from the Housing Department never responded to questions. Seven days have passed since both companies made their competing claims public. Residents remain confused about who really controls their neighborhood. City officials refuse to clear up the ownership confusion.
