A Harare man sued the city after officials gave away his land without asking him. Chenjerai Milton Musonza bought Stand number Rem 5807 Glenview for $485,317 back during March 2020. He paid administration fees, deposits, water connections and sewer hookups for the property. City workers handed over his residential plot to strangers who built a presidential project there. The scheme features solar panels and a water well that covers his entire lot.
Musonza discovered the takeover during 2023 after President Mnangagwa's advisor Paul Tunguwarara started the program. Unknown people erected community solar equipment and drilled a borehole without telling the landowner. City officials promised Musonza they would find him another stand somewhere else around Harare. The municipality stopped responding to his lawyers despite many requests for updates. Musonza took the City of Harare and housing director to High Court over the matter.
