Harare Man Wins Protection Order Over Wife's Abuse

A man from Harare took his wife to court asking for protection, claiming she cheats on him and acts violently. Takudzwa Gore told officials his wife, Ohtilia Mangwiro, brings different boyfriends into their home.

During Monday's court session, Gore said, "I have no peace at my house because she keeps bringing various men inside. I worry about catching diseases." He added that these men threatened to kill him with his wife's support.

Gore testified that Mangwiro warned him she controls his life completely and can harm him whenever she wants. She reportedly tells him he can't make any choices because she decides everything for him.

He also accused her of selling his belongings without permission. "She takes my batteries and solar panels, then wastes the money with her boyfriends," Gore explained. "I feel scared to question her since she threatens my life."

Gore nearly cried when describing how he lives like a servant in his house. His wife apparently throws things at him and hurts him physically. "Last Sunday, she threw pots at me, causing injuries. She attacks me with dangerous objects," he said.

According to Gore, Mangwiro insults him with bad language even when others are present, which embarrasses him greatly. He begged the court for help because he feared returning home might result in eviction.

Mangwiro missed the court hearing, but Magistrate Meenal Naratom approved the protection order Gore requested.
