Harare orders car wreck removals after child deaths

Harare officials gave property managers seven days to remove abandoned vehicles from parking facilities and public areas. Acting town clerk F.M. Movo announced the order on Wednesday and warned that the city would impound vehicles at the owner's expense if the deadlines passed. The directive follows the deaths of three children discovered inside a derelict Mercedes-Benz near their homes in Kuwadzana Extension on Thursday, October 3.

Authorities requested that residents report the locations of derelict cars to enable rapid municipal response. Police confirmed the missing children had no injuries, suggesting mutilation despite circulating social media claims. The victims disappeared on Tuesday, October 1, before their discovery two days later. City administrators described vehicle removal as urgent after the tragedy prompted safety concerns across residential neighborhoods.
