Harare police nab bogus estate agents

Police have arrested three individuals for operating as unregistered real estate agents, highlighting a concerning trend of property fraud. Don Garikai Budzi, Tafadzwa Leslie Mwedzi, and Mordecai Tigere were taken into custody for violating the Estate Agents Act. Authorities allege the group advertised and sold both residential and commercial properties without the required registration from the Real Estate Agents Council of Zimbabwe.

A spokesperson for the Criminal Investigation Department, Detective Inspector Rachel Muteweri, warned that such schemes pose a serious financial risk to the public. She advised potential buyers to always verify an agent's official registration status and confirm property ownership directly before engaging in any transaction. The suspects have been remanded in custody following their appearance at the Harare Magistrate's Court.
