Harare youth have something big coming their way. According to Senator Charles Tawengwa, Minister of State for Harare Metropolitan Province and Devolution, around 150,000 young people will learn tech skills through the Digitruck and Digital Skills Ambassador Programme. President Mnangagwa kicked off this initiative earlier this year as part of a national push toward digital excellence, helping communities succeed in the global digital economy.
The program started with Mbare youth as its first trainees. Yesterday marked a milestone when 68 students finished their training. Officials expect about 10,000 young Mbare residents will eventually benefit from these free ICT lessons, which anyone can join regardless of previous education. Minister Tawengwa spoke at the graduation event held at the Mbare Renewal Project this afternoon, emphasizing government dedication to improving lives through technology.
He stressed that bringing tech knowledge to everyone matters greatly, regardless of where they live or their financial situation. The current administration wants young Zimbabweans to feel empowered through these digital skills. Mr. Oliver Olembe Vellem, who chairs the Mbare Renewal Projects, attended the celebration for the recent graduates.
The project offers much more than just initial training. They built a complete ICT lab where participants can practice their new skills without paying fees. This creates ongoing learning opportunities for local youth who want to develop their tech abilities further. The free access removes barriers for those who might otherwise miss out on valuable digital education.
