Hearts legend Polo decries mediocre fourth-place season

Hearts of Oak legend Mohammed Polo has criticized his former club's recent performance. The veteran player called the team mediocre after their disappointing 2024/25 season results. Polo attacked management for celebrating a fourth-place league finish. He believes such reactions show the club has lost its winning mentality. The former star said Hearts of Oak should compete at higher levels.

The club finished fourth with 58 points during the recent Premier League campaign. Hearts of Oak also lost early during FA Cup competition. These results came after previous success under coach Samuel Boadu. That coach led the team to league and cup victories that ended 13 years without major trophies. The recent struggles have frustrated longtime supporters.

Polo compared Hearts of Oak unfavorably to Tunisian team Esperance. He reminded listeners that his former club once defeated Esperance for a continental trophy. Esperance continues playing at the Club World Cup level. Hearts of Oak no longer reaches such prestigious competitions. The legend blamed poor management decisions for this decline.

Club officials have hired Mas-Ud Didi Dramani as head coach for two years. The new appointment aims to restore Hearts of Oak's competitive edge. Former coach Aboubakar Ouattara moved to a different role within the organization. He serves as Special Advisor to the Board of Directors. Team leadership hopes these changes will improve future performance.

Hearts of Oak once dominated Ghanaian football at both domestic and continental levels. The club's current struggles represent a significant fall from their historical success.
