According to Executive Producer Sunggu Lee, the upcoming MMORPG Horizon Steel Frontiers draws significant inspiration from the cooperative hunting mechanics of the Monster Hunter series. He explained that adapting the Horizon franchise’s core concept of hunting large machines into a multiplayer format made this a natural reference. Lee stated that the game would combine that hunting-action genre with Horizon’s distinctive machine ecosystem, part-breaking mechanics, and narrative depth.
The game will feature towns and guilds as central community hubs where players can prepare for hunts and form groups. Lee confirmed that social features like friends lists and party systems would be included. He also noted a shift toward more melee-focused combat compared to the original games, supporting small to mid-sized cooperative raids. The developer emphasized that the core content is focused on player-versus-environment elements.
Horizon Steel Frontiers is being developed with Unreal Engine 5 and is scheduled for a PC and mobile release. NCSOFT is also pursuing a potential PlayStation 5 version.
