I Love Muhammad poster chaos leaves Bareilly battered

BJP legislator Dinesh Sharma criticized recent violence stemming from religious poster disputes across multiple Indian states. The politician called for community harmony while referencing Prophet Muhammad's teachings about patience and compassion. Sharma questioned why demonstrations expressing religious devotion would lead to stone-throwing incidents.

Bareilly witnessed calmer conditions Saturday after Friday's violent clashes between protesters and police officers. Authorities detained approximately 50 people following confrontations that injured 10 law enforcement personnel. The unrest began when demonstrators gathered near Islamia Ground carrying religious banners.

The controversy originated September 4 during a religious procession in Kanpur when groups displayed banners along traditional celebration routes. Local Hindu organizations objected to what they termed new customs being introduced during established religious observances.

Police maintained heavy deployment around religious leader residences while municipal workers cleared street debris from previous disturbances.
