Ibhetshu LikaZulu sues to block Mnangagwa's term plan

This human rights outfit called Ibhetshu LikaZulu went to court over Zanu PF, telling Justice Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi to push constitutional changes that would keep President Emmerson Mnangagwa around until 2030. Secretary-General Mbuso Fuzwayo said the party resolution from last year was whatever since it stayed internal, but this recent one crossed into illegal territory by ordering a government official to pursue what amounts to a personal power grab.

Fuzwayo shot down claims that Zanu PF bankrolled their legal action or that they have ties to some CCC interim leader named Sengezo Tshabangu. He said lazy critics throw accusations around instead of offering better ways to fight the 2030 extension plan, besides street protests or courtroom battles. The group has a track record of advocacy work around Gukurahundi issues and constitutional protections, and Fuzwayo argued civil society needs to step up when elected officials start messing with the constitution for their benefit.
