Ifon youth demand new king, five-year wait wears thin

Youth from Ifon in Ose Local Government just hit the streets demanding that Ondo State install a new traditional ruler after their last king got shot by highway bandits half a decade back. Oba Israel Adewusi died after gunmen ambushed him on the Benin-Owo-Akure road while he was heading home from a government meeting in Akure, and the throne has been empty ever since.

The Ifon Development Youth Forum marched through town with signs asking Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to approve a successor through the proper chieftaincy process. Community reps said the vacancy has killed social programs and administrative functions, and they warned that keeping a large town without leadership creates dangerous instability. Princess Aderiike Odogiyan told officials they need someone appointed within the next couple of months because the situation has gotten too messy.
