IFP councillor Doncabe quits Umzumbe for MK Party

Inkatha Freedom Party councillor Siyabonga Goodenough Doncabe has stepped down from his Ward 13 seat in Umzumbe Local Municipality and will join the uMkhonto weSizwe Party. His resignation letter cited constituency conditions that made continuing service untenable, thanking residents for their support throughout his tenure.

The defection marks another political shift in KwaZulu-Natal, where the MK Party has recruited from established organizations following its provincial electoral success. A replacement election for the ward is scheduled for late January, potentially reshaping local governance in the Ugu District municipality.

Political observers anticipate the contest will measure MK Party strength in rural territories against traditional IFP dominance, with service delivery concerns and economic issues influencing voter decisions.
