Immigration detains 468 foreigners

In a large-scale operation, the Immigration Department detained 468 foreign nationals for various immigration violations. The raids, which involved over 500 officers, targeted business areas, construction sites, and vegetable farms in a highland region following community complaints and a month of intelligence gathering. Director-General Datuk Zakaria Shaaban reported that the terrain and the willingness of local businesses to hire foreigners had made the area a focus for migrant workers.

Officials checked 1,886 individuals during the operation. Those arrested were primarily from Myanmar, Bangladesh, and Indonesia, and were held for offences including expired passes, missing travel documents, and suspected fake permits. The group consisted of 388 men, 76 women, and four children.

All detained individuals will be transferred to immigration depots in Kelantan, Perak, and Selangor. Nationwide enforcement efforts since the start of the year have led to the detention of nearly 84,000 foreigners.
