India-Morocco ties get defence jolt, Tata’s WhAP plant fires up

Indian External Affairs Minister Kirti Vardhan Singh conducted talks with Omar Hejira, Morocco's Secretary of State for Foreign Trade, during diplomatic discussions held in New Delhi on Wednesday. Both officials focused their conversation on methods to enhance the growing partnership between their respective nations. The bilateral meeting occurred following Defence Minister Rajnath Singh's recent diplomatic mission to Morocco from September 22 through 23. Singh and his Moroccan counterpart Abdelatif Loudyi opened Tata Advanced Systems Limited's new defense manufacturing plant in Berrechid during that visit. The 20,000-square-meter facility will manufacture the indigenously developed Wheeled Armoured Platform 8x8 vehicle.

Rajnath Singh held separate discussions with Morocco's Trade Minister Ryad Mezzour about defense cooperation, pharmaceuticals, and chemical industries. The Indian Defense Minister also signed a memorandum of understanding with his Moroccan counterpart covering counter-terrorism, maritime security, cyber defense, and capacity building initiatives. Singh engaged with the Indian community residing in Rabat during his groundbreaking visit. His diplomatic mission marked the first time an Indian Defence Minister had traveled to Morocco. The visit strengthened security cooperation between both countries across multiple sectors.
