INEC rejects All Democratic Alliance registration over unmet criteria

Nigeria's election commission rejected a new political party's registration request on Tuesday. The Independent National Electoral Commission told reporters that All Democratic Alliance cannot join the official roster of parties. Sam Olumekun serves as National Commissioner and heads the Information and Voter Education Committee for INEC. He explained that the group failed to complete necessary paperwork properly. The commission requires specific steps before any political organization can become official.

Multiple groups have sent letters asking to form new parties across the country. INEC officials said none of these organizations have satisfied the basic rules for starting the registration process. Olumekun told journalists that groups must meet certain standards before sending formal requests. The commission receives many inquiries from people wanting to create political parties. Each group must follow the same procedures without exception.

The All Democratic Alliance made a critical error when writing to election officials. Party founders left out an important word from their official letter to the INEC chairman. The missing term was electoral which appears to be required language for such requests. This mistake shows the group did not carefully review the application requirements. INEC expects all political organizations to follow directions exactly as written.
