Interim govt kicks off election campaign for 2026

Bangladesh's interim administration kicked off its parliamentary election promotional effort on Sunday by distributing a 48-second video announcement. The Chief Adviser's Press Wing confirmed that activities promoting the 2026 national vote have begun.

Captain Dr. Md Khan Sobayel Bin Rafiq appears in the brief clip, urging citizens to take part in what he describes as the nation's most consequential democratic exercise. The retired military officer previously led investigations into the 2009 BDR rebellion and advocates for families affected by forced disappearances. His message encourages Bangladeshis to move beyond earlier difficulties and embrace their opportunity to shape the country's direction through balloting. He tells viewers that casting votes will determine the type of nation they wish to build.

Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus announced in August that voting for the 13th general election would occur before Ramadan begins next year. He directed the Election Commission on August 5 to start preparations. The Chief Election Commissioner indicated that authorities will publish the formal schedule roughly two months ahead of polling day, with the announcement expected during the first half.
