iPhone 17e ditches notch, keeps sad 60Hz screen

Apple’s cheap iPhone might finally ditch the notch, but the screen stays stuck. A Weibo leaker called Digital Chat Station says the iPhone 17e is on the way soon, rocking a 6.1-inch LTPS OLED panel locked at 60Hz, even as the regular iPhone 17 gets a smoother 120Hz ProMotion experience.

Dynamic Island reportedly replaces the old cutout, and Face ID remains part of the package. Power is said to come from Apple’s A19 chip, with chatter pegging it around 5 to 10 percent quicker than the A18 found in the iPhone 16e.

Signs point to the 17e already rolling through mass production, following reports tying the ramp-up to the period after CES wrapped up. Connectivity rumors stick it with a C1-series modem, while skipping an N1 chip.

Charging and cameras sound familiar, with magnetic wireless charging, a 12MP front camera, and a 48MP rear shooter. Pricing is expected to sit at $599 again, and the entry storage might jump to 256GB.
