Women in Toroba village received five hectares of agricultural land through EU-funded assistance from ActionAid International The Gambia. Village Development Committee Chairman Ismaila Bah completed all legal documentation with Kerewan Area Council before transferring ownership to female beneficiaries. The SAPOF Project constructed a vegetable garden equipped with solar-powered water systems and modern facilities. ActionAid installed eight solar panels, one 15,000-liter tank, and fifteen water reservoirs for year-round farming operations. The organization provided training for eighteen women farmers in organic fertilizer production methods.
Women's leader Aja Isatou Jallow confirmed the fenced garden accommodates over 200 female farmers for sustainable agriculture. ActionAid distributed essential farming equipment such as wheelbarrows, watering cans, and hand tools for garden maintenance. The initiative promotes food security while generating income for participating families through organic vegetable sales. Officials encourage other communities to adopt similar land allocation programs for women. This project demonstrates effective collaboration between international donors and local leadership for rural development.
