Israel orders strikes after Iran missiles violate fragile cease-fire

Israel ordered new attacks against Iran just hours after a ceasefire began between the two countries. Israeli forces detected two missiles fired from Iran toward Israeli territory. Military leaders said Iran had broken the peace agreement. Defense officials told troops to respond with force against the missile launches. Several Israeli politicians demanded immediate action against Iran.

The ceasefire had started early Tuesday morning after both sides agreed to stop fighting. President Donald Trump helped arrange the peace deal between Israel and Iran. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accepted the American proposal for ending hostilities. Iran fired what it called final shots as the ceasefire was about to begin. Iranian leaders said they would keep fighting until Israel stopped its attacks first.

Israel and Iran have fought through proxy groups for many years. The conflict became direct warfare after Hamas attacked Israel on October 7, 2023. Israel responded with massive strikes against Gaza and later targeted Iranian allies across the region. The fighting spread when Israel hit Iranian nuclear facilities earlier this month.

The United States joined the fighting when Trump ordered attacks on Iranian nuclear sites last Saturday. Iran struck back against an American base in Qatar on Monday. No American or Qatari personnel were hurt in that attack. Both countries had exchanged heavy fire before agreeing to the Trump ceasefire proposal.

Iranian officials have not responded to Israeli claims about the missile launches. The future of the peace agreement remains uncertain after these latest events.
