Jammeh Rips Badjie Out for Breaking Party Rules

The old president of Gambia, Yaya Jammeh, talked about Mr. Bakary Badjie. He doesn't want Mr. Badjie to run for president in 2026.

Mr. Badjie is one of five special lawmakers from Foni. These lawmakers belong to a group that likes Mr. Jammeh. Last week, Mr. Badjie said he wanted to become president, which upset the other lawmakers from Foni because he didn't tell them first.

On Monday night, Mr. Jammeh spoke from his home in Equatorial Guinea, a country far away. He said very clearly: "Mr. Badjie cannot use our party. Anyone who wants to be president can make their party. I kicked Mr. Badjie out of our party today, February 24."

Mr. Jammeh wasn't surprised by what Mr. Badjie did. He said he never talked to Mr. Badjie about becoming president. Mr. Jammeh only knew that Mr. Badjie was supposed to help with farming for the party, but he didn't do a good job.

The old president also said something strange. He claimed a white person from Europe told Mr. Badjie he would become president. Mr. Jammeh said he will wait for the right time to do something about this problem.

Mr. Badjie hasn't said anything yet about what Mr. Jammeh said.
