Janjali Haunts Bright Stars With Brutal Relegation

Bright Stars lost their place in the Uganda Premier League after former teammate Joseph Janjali scored for UPDF FC just one minute into their match at Bombo yesterday. The 1-0 defeat officially ended Bright Stars' 12-year run in the top league with three games still to play. Their fate became certain when Mbarara City beat Wakiso Giants 1-0, pushing the gap to 10 points with only nine games left.

Janjali took a pass from Emmanuel Ochen early in the game and shot past goalkeeper Shamulan Kamya for the winning goal. Bright Stars created chances throughout the first half but found UPDF goalie Richard Anyama hard to beat. Noordin Bunjo came closest when his strike hit the crossbar.

Captain Nelson Ssenkatuka missed a clear chance in the second half, as his shot went wide. UPDF almost scored again through a Janjali free kick late in the game. The win lifted UPDF to tenth place with 36 points, while Bright Stars remain next to last with just 16 points.

Other results saw Maroons beat Police 1-0, URA FC defeat Lugazi 1-0, and Express win 1-0 against Kitara. Today, fans can watch SC Villa play KCCA, NEC face BUL, and Vipers take on Mbale Heroes.
