Jensen Huang fumes as Malaysia bars Nvidia GPUs in US-China chip feud

Malaysia announced new export controls for advanced artificial intelligence graphics processing units after facing pressure from the Trump administration regarding potential restrictions. The Southeast Asian nation will require companies to obtain proper licensing before shipping high-end semiconductors abroad. Authorities must receive notification at least thirty days before any planned shipments of sophisticated AI chips leave Malaysian borders. This policy change follows similar enforcement actions by Singapore against smuggling networks that allegedly moved restricted technology to China. The new regulations align Malaysia with broader American efforts to control the flow of sensitive computing hardware.

NVIDIA Corporation experienced stock fluctuations earlier this year when the Trump administration blocked sales of China-specific H20 graphics processors. The company has since resumed accepting orders for these specialized chips while awaiting government approval for export licenses. Shares gained nearly five percent in premarket trading after NVIDIA announced its renewed confidence about receiving the necessary permits. Investment analysts at UBS estimate that Malaysian operations could represent twelve percent of NVIDIA total revenue due to expanding AI infrastructure projects. The semiconductor giant reached the top position among global companies by market capitalization following strong earnings that exceeded investor expectations.

Chief Executive Jensen Huang continues advocating against strict export limitations, arguing that restricting Chinese access to American AI technology undermines United States leadership in global artificial intelligence development. Government officials maintain that potential military applications of advanced processors pose risks to national security interests. Asian countries have reportedly served as intermediary shipping points for Chinese entities seeking to acquire restricted American semiconductor products.
