JOOTRH now a national hub for Western care

The Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital just became a national hospital, which brings huge benefits to Western Kenya residents. Deputy Chief of Staff Eliud Owalo praised President William Ruto for making this happen. He called it a major breakthrough that addresses what locals have wanted for years.

The hospital will see many improvements thanks to this upgrade. Patients can access better medical care without traveling far. More doctors, nurses, and staff will find jobs there. The facility will receive extra money from the national government to improve its services.

President Ruto and his Cabinet approved this change during a meeting at State House in Nairobi. The hospital, known locally as Russia Hospital, used to be managed by Kisumu County. The Ministry of Health will take over its operations, which should make healthcare better for everyone nearby.

Western Kenya faces serious health problems, including high infant deaths, maternal mortality, HIV, and malaria. This upgraded hospital will help tackle these issues head-on. It will bring specialized treatment closer to people who need it most.

The hospital can expect more funding for new equipment and technology. Medical staff will receive better training through partnerships with universities. Community health programs will expand to reach more villages. All these changes aim to improve health outcomes across the region.

Owalo mentioned this fits perfectly with Kenya Kwanza's plan for affordable healthcare for all citizens. The hospital becomes a state corporation, meaning it qualifies for additional financial support. Local people will benefit from economic growth as the hospital expands its services and hires more workers.
