JU students finally get their union back after 33 years

Vice-Chancellor Prof Kamrul Ahsan congratulated the winners of the 2025 Jahangirnagar University Central Students' Union and hall union elections. Mohammad Mohiuddin from the Public Relations Office issued the congratulatory statement on Sunday evening. The university conducted its first student union elections after a 33-year gap. Prof Ahsan connected the democratic voting process to the 2024 mass uprising that sought political change. He expressed hopes that elected representatives would fulfill student expectations responsibly.

The vice-chancellor emphasized that the restored student union would protect both the interests of students and the university. He called upon new leaders to improve educational and research conditions while building an inclusive campus environment. Prof Ahsan urged the leadership to maintain values rooted in the 1971 and 2024 movements. He thanked the Election Commission, candidates, faculty, students, media personnel, and law enforcement for ensuring successful elections. The vice-chancellor requested collective efforts toward creating a progressive university atmosphere.
