Competition organizers gave updates about the Dolo Kwambiri Amavotera Chakwera music contest. Trade and Industry Minister Vitumbiko Mumba started the challenge last year to find new musical talent. Fifteen songs from five different music styles made it to the final round after February selections. Each music style will produce one winner who receives K5 million as prize money. Judges have returned to make their final choices from the competing songs.
The selection process changed from earlier plans that involved public voting. Contest officials decided judges will pick all winners without help from voters. Foster Kaphala, Kiddy Tseka and Isaac Kabweza represent local music genre. Hip hop artists Robinson James, Howokire Luweya and Elmak compete for their category prize. Reggae musicians Abel Kachala, Ezy Phyzix and James Kaphala fight for that section award.
The final awards ceremony happens on June 7th at a location still to be announced. Amapiamo category features Zigwe Music, Emmanuel Harry and Dalitso Chiwambo as contestants. Other genre competitors are Favour Jeketa, Francis Kalambule with Foster K, and Rasco Taleniz. All fifteen artists wait for judge decisions about who wins each music style. The competition aims to motivate hidden musical abilities across the country.
