Judiciary honours seven officers for their dedication to justice

Kenya's legal community honored seven judicial officers during a ceremony at Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi, with Chief Justice Martha Koome leading proceedings to recognize colleagues who died over the past two years. The departed included Timothy Ole Tanchu, Jacqueline Muthoni Ojwang, Monicah Kivuti, Zenah Atetwe Rashid Jalenga, Bernard Kipyegon Rugut, John Tito Kunyuk, and Athman Abdulhalim Hussein.

Koome praised each officer for serving with devotion and integrity while emphasizing that their contributions form a foundation for building a more accessible justice system. Chief Kadhi Hussein received recognition for his mastery of Islamic jurisprudence and mentorship, while Kivuti was remembered for continuing to hear cases after being attacked during lunch hour in a tent.

Families expressed appreciation for institutional support as speakers highlighted the officers' commitment to fairness and equity. Chief Registrar Winfridah Mokaya described the proceedings as affirming dedication to preserving officers' legacies within institutional memory.
