Kabene Hat Trick Sends Queens Packing in Cup Upset

Sylivia Kabene scored three goals to knock Kampala Queens out of the women's cup competition Wednesday. Her hat trick powered St. Noa Girls School to a 3-2 victory at Phillip Omondi Stadium. The striker had just helped her team win the league championship before this knockout match. Kabene opened scoring with a clever chip over goalkeeper Gloria Namakuka during the first half. Kampala Queens fought back through Shamira Nalugya's penalty kick and Zaina Nandede's solo effort before halftime.

St. Noa trailed 2-1 when the second half started but Kabene refused to quit. She scored her second goal after defenders made a mistake near their penalty area. The striker completed her hat trick late when Queens players lost concentration at the back. Her winning goal sent St. Noa supporters into wild celebrations around the stadium. Kampala Queens lost their chance at winning both major competitions this season.

St. Noa advances to face She Corporate during the semifinals next month. Amus College WFC will battle Uganda Martyrs Lubaga WFC in the other semifinal matchup. Both semifinal games take place June 4 with return matches four days later. The winner will claim the national cup trophy after the final rounds finish.
