Kaduna Docs Scrap Strike After Showdown

Doctors at Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital ended their six-day strike after weekend talks. Dr Josiah Yakubu leads the local doctors group that called off the protest. Medical staff will return to work Tuesday morning at different times. The Nigeria Medical Association helped solve the dispute between doctors and hospital managers. State officials stepped forward to help fix the problems.

Hospital bosses fired some doctors during the strike and warned others about losing jobs. The doctors group learned that hospital management made these decisions alone without state approval. Medical association leaders met for two hours to discuss solutions that protect both patients and doctors. State government officials admitted the doctors had valid concerns about pay and working conditions.

The secretary to the state government asked for two months to address doctor shortages and salary problems. Officials drafted a cost estimate for updating doctor pay scales from 2014 to current rates. All parties signed an agreement that outlines steps to resolve the conflict. Medical association leaders promised to monitor progress until doctors receive what they demanded.
