Kaitano Tembo tells Zimbabwe fans to back Michael Nees after World Cup exit

Former Warriors player Kaitano Tembo defended national team manager Michael Nees against mounting pressure following recent poor results. Zimbabwe crashed out of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers after consecutive losses to Benin and Rwanda during the latest matches. The team failed to secure any victories throughout the qualifying campaign under Nees's leadership. Critics have questioned the German manager's effectiveness given his record of only two victories alongside eight draws and three defeats since his appointment. However, Tembo highlighted the successful qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations as evidence of progress.

The former international midfielder compared Zimbabwe's situation to South Africa's experience with coach Hugo Broos. Tembo emphasized that SAFA provided Broos sufficient time to develop his squad and implement his tactical approach effectively. He argued that Nees deserves similar patience to build a competitive team structure. Tembo noted the manager's efforts to recall veteran striker Knowledge Musona and adapt available players to his preferred playing style. The defender urged supporters to remain optimistic about future developments under Nees' guidance.
