MTN Uganda has brought in a new boss for their marketing team. Sylvia Elsheikh takes over as chief marketing officer starting July 14. She replaces Somdev Sen who moves to different work within the MTN Group. Elsheikh brings 18 years of experience from telecom and business sectors. The company picked her for her skills in marketing strategy and digital transformation.
Elsheikh worked as chief marketing officer at Airtel Zambia from 2022 to 2025 before joining MTN Uganda. She helped Airtel become the market leader with more than 60 percent value share. Her team rolled out Zambia's biggest 5G and LTE networks during her time there. She also launched Voice over LTE services that made Airtel a technology leader. Her success at Airtel caught MTN Uganda's attention.
The new marketing chief previously worked at MTN Sudan for several years in different roles. She served as chief marketing officer from 2016 to 2022 and held other senior positions. Her early career included jobs at Sudani Telecom and Canar Telecom in Sudan. Elsheikh says she feels excited to return to the MTN family after her time away. She wants to work with the Uganda team to create marketing strategies that connect with local customers.
