Kampala's Boda Bodas Just Went Electric

Uganda pushes forward with electric bikes as fuel costs rise around the world. The country wants cleaner air and less pollution from gas-powered motorcycles. Victor Getenya from Spiro says electric bikes help the environment. He works for Africa's biggest electric vehicle company. Electric bikes make cities quieter and safer for everyone.

President Museveni supports electric motorcycles instead of cutting fuel taxes. He says electric bikes solve the fuel price problem better. The government lets electric motorcycles carry passengers. Spiro partnered with SafeBoda to spread electric bikes across Uganda. Rapa Thomson Ricky says electric transport makes cities cleaner.

Electric bikes cost less to run than gas motorcycles. Fuel prices keep going up but electricity stays cheaper. Spiro cut bike prices to 3.8 million shillings to help more people buy them. The company had 4,000 electric bikes on roads after one year. Government policies help the electric vehicle industry grow.

Uganda uses hydroelectric power for most electricity needs. This makes electric bikes very clean compared to gas ones. The country wants to become a leader in electric vehicles. Spiro aims to replace all gas motorcycles with electric ones. Electric transport reduces carbon emissions and fights climate change.
