Kanifing court convicts Emmanuel Morgan for theft

A Sierra Leonean man received both a fine and a compensation order after admitting to stealing money intended for business purchases in Dippa-Kunda. Emmanuel Morgan appeared before Principal Magistrate Sallah M'Bai at Kanifing Magistrates' Court and acknowledged taking cash from businessman Bai Yahya Touray, who had entrusted him with purchasing cigarettes and beverages.

Morgan disappeared with the funds but was later located at a garage, where he confessed to spending the money on personal expenses. The prosecution requested compensation for the victim under criminal statutes, and Morgan asked for leniency while noting his clean record.

The magistrate imposed a monetary penalty and ordered reimbursement to Touray, with jail terms as alternatives if payments are not made. The sentences will run one after another rather than simultaneously.
