Mamodou Camara pleads not guilty to fraud charges in Kanifing Court

A Gambian resident faced fraud charges in Kanifing Magistrates' Court on Monday after authorities accused him of collecting money from multiple individuals under false rental agreements. Mamodou Camara entered not guilty pleas to four counts involving approximately 72,000 dalasis allegedly obtained from victims between June and October 2025.

Police claim Camara promised housing to Chetten Brigitte, Yankuba Bah, Muhammed Sedibeh and Josephine Woobay while knowing he could not deliver the accommodations. The amounts ranged from 9,000 to 30,000 dalasis per complainant at locations in Manjai Kunda within Kanifing Municipality.

Principal Magistrate Sallah M'bai released the defendant on 120,000 dalasi bail with requirements for two guarantors who must provide identification documents and phone numbers. Defense attorney S. Akinbo represented Camara while Sergeant 4195 Baldeh prosecuted on behalf of the Inspector General of Police. Witness testimony begins November 25 at 1:30 p.m.
