Kaplong Girls High School in Bomet County closed after student protest over harassment allegations

Authorities have shut down Kaplong Girls High School in Bomet County after students staged a demonstration against alleged sexual misconduct by teachers. Principal Clara Mitei announced the indefinite closure following overnight disturbances that forced administrators to send pupils home early Sunday morning. The demonstration erupted when students voiced complaints about inappropriate conduct by faculty members and additional institutional concerns. Chaos ensued during the protest, resulting in a stampede that left multiple students with minor wounds requiring medical attention at St. Claire Kaplong Mission Hospital. Property damage occurred throughout the campus during the upheaval.

Officials have launched an investigation while education leaders evaluate reopening procedures, though no timeline has emerged for classes to resume.
