Kasaila Ditches MEC to Chase Nsanje DPP Ticket

MEC says Francis Lazalo Kasaila left his job at the Malawi Electoral Commission on April 23, 2025, for personal reasons. The Commission thanked him for his hard work during his time there. He led the Media, Civic, and Voter Education Committee before leaving. The MEC stated they appreciated everything he did as commissioner.

Five members remain on the Commission, with the Chairperson after this change. This number meets legal requirements for holding official meetings. The law states that at least four commissioners must attend to conduct business properly. The Commission can continue working normally despite this departure. All scheduled activities will move forward as planned.

Kasaila resigned after winning the DPP primary elections for the Nsanje Central constituency. He hopes to become the next member of parliament from that area. His victory positions him as the DPP candidate for the upcoming national elections. His decision to leave MEC appears connected to his political ambitions. Running for office would create conflicts with his former role.
