At a promotional event for his upcoming movie Dacoit, director Anurag Kashyap joked about being accustomed to his films underperforming financially. He was asked about the box office results for his recent passion project, Nishaanchi. Kashyap replied that he expected a bit more, but realized quickly the audience reception was familiar territory.
He mentioned the film, originally produced for Amazon, found its audience more easily after being combined into a single feature for streaming. Kashyap also revealed the movie initially had a much longer working title involving the character names Babloo, Dabloo, and Rinku before being shortened. In Dacoit, he plays a tough police officer named Swamy alongside Adivi Sesh and Mrunal Thakur.
