Katima Mulilo council suspends Patrick Lilungwe

Katima Mulilo Town Council has placed its manager overseeing legal affairs, bilateral relations, and corporate services on immediate suspension under provisions of the Local Authorities Act. Patrick Lilungwe will remain barred from performing any official functions while the administrative action remains in force, according to municipal spokesperson Chrispin Muyoba, who assured residents that service delivery would continue uninterrupted under designated supervisory personnel.

The suspension adds to leadership upheaval at the Namibian municipality, where chief executive Raphael Liswaniso was placed on unpaid leave earlier and the entire council faced dissolution by Urban and Rural Development Minister James Sankwasa over alleged mismanagement. Administrator Marina Kandumbu currently oversees operations following the ministerial intervention. Sankwasa recently disclosed that a subsequent audit uncovered corruption, favoritism, and administrative failures within council operations, though specific reasons for Lilungwe's suspension were not revealed.
