Police in Zambezi believe saboteurs within the Katima Mulilo Town Council orchestrated recent security breaches at municipal offices, including two break-ins and an arson attack. Inspector Kisco Sitali confirmed that suspects cut through perimeter fencing and building materials to access the planning, finance and cash departments, stealing one computer while destroying a laptop. The fire previously gutted the registry office, destroying property-related documents.
Council spokesperson Chrispin Muyoba said officials terminated their security contractor after three incidents occurred under its watch. Urban and rural development minister James Sankwasa alleged the crimes aimed to conceal evidence of improper land transactions, noting the dismissed security firm lacked a valid contract.
Authorities have made no arrests and continue seeking information from potential witnesses about the criminal activity targeting municipal records and equipment.
