Kawana Pledges Tough Action on Drug Dealers in Erongo

Albert Kawana wants tough action against people selling drugs across the country. The home affairs minister spoke at a new police station opening last Thursday near Swakopmund. Drug problems keep growing worse throughout the Erongo region, causing serious worry among officials. Our young people face terrible danger from these substances, Kawana explained during his speech.

The beautiful facility sits inside the DRC settlement area, built entirely through the Rössing Uranium mining company's generosity. Their donation totaled N$20.7 million, creating modern space for law enforcement work. According to Kawana, community support remains essential for fighting crime effectively. He asked church heads, traditional chiefs, and regular citizens to help police tackle these problems.

Crime rates continue climbing nationwide, requiring fresh approaches to public safety. Kawana reminded officers about their duty toward professional service standards. He emphasized respect for human rights, proper legal procedures, and strong community relationships as vital parts of their job. These elements build necessary trust between citizens and police departments.

This station comes fully equipped with everything officers need for daily operations. It features four holding cells, doctor space, record storage, interview rooms, kitchen facilities, and staff areas. The police received two vehicles valued at over N$100,000 to serve the community better. Swakopmund leaders pitched in by donating land worth N$125,000 for construction purposes.

Kawana praised everyone involved in making this project happen successfully. He called for additional businesses and groups to consider similar contributions elsewhere. Building important structures requires teamwork between government agencies and private citizens across Namibia. Everyone shares responsibility for creating safer communities through proper resources and facilities.
