Authorities in Machakos County detained a police officer and an unidentified woman following the disappearance of a rifle from the officer's residence at KBC Police Station, which functions as the Matungulu Subcounty command headquarters. Matungulu Subcounty Police Commander Festus Mutune confirmed the weapon vanished while the officer briefly stepped out to purchase vegetables, with the woman reportedly present in his home shortly before the incident. The officer was held at Tala Police Station while the woman remained in custody at KBC Police Station pending investigations.
This marks the second firearm to go missing from Matungulu Subcounty within recent months. A G3 rifle that disappeared from Kinyui Police Post was eventually recovered at Katine Village in Tala Location, although it was missing its buttstock when community members alerted local authorities. Deputy County Commissioner Everline Wekesa praised residents for their cooperation while security officials pledged to strengthen armory controls across the subcounty.
