Kenya Defence Forces divers recovered a drowning victim's remains from Chepkorio Dam after six days of searching. The middle-aged man had died in waters located near the Eldoret-Nakuru highway in Ngeria, Uasin Gishu county. Previous rescue attempts by local divers and other agencies had failed because of challenging underwater conditions and the dam's 80-foot depth. Specialized personnel from the Kenya Navy Clearance Diving Unit worked alongside the 9th Battalion, Kenya Rifles, to complete the mission on September 13, 2025. Advanced JJ Closed Circuit Rebreather systems allowed the military team to dive longer and search more extensively than conventional equipment permits.
The sophisticated breathing apparatus enabled divers to locate and retrieve the body efficiently, where earlier efforts had been unsuccessful. Local police received custody of the remains for standard procedures following the recovery operation. KDF officials emphasized their commitment to humanitarian missions and emergency response capabilities during the operation. The military expressed sympathy to the deceased man's family during their period of grief and loss.
