Kenya and Senegal tie as Africa power champs

Kenya just became Africa's best country for managing electricity rules. The nation tied with Senegal for first place according to a new report from the African Development Bank. Both countries earned scores of 0.892 out of a perfect 1.0. Kenya jumped up from fifth place when the last report came out two years ago. East African countries did really well overall.

Uganda, Namibia and Tanzania also made it into the top five spots. The bank studied 43 African countries to see how well they handle their power systems. Countries at the bottom included Sao Tome and Principe, Republic of Congo, Guinea, Gabon and Djibouti. Sao Tome and Principe scored worst among all nations. Good electricity rules help countries attract money for new power projects.

The report looked at three main areas to judge each country. These areas checked how well governments run their electricity systems and protect customers. Kenya did amazingly well at making sure people and companies felt happy with their power service. The country scored 0.854 for customer satisfaction, beating every other African nation. Senegal and Zimbabwe came second and third for keeping customers happy.

Kenya also performed strongly when experts checked how well it uses its legal powers over electricity. The country ranked fourth with a score of 0.946 behind Rwanda, Uganda and Senegal. Kenya earned fourth place again for having strong laws and institutions that govern power companies. Tanzania and Uganda beat Kenya for having the strongest legal foundations for electricity oversight.
