Kenya Power to Interrupt Service in Eight Counties Tuesday

Kenya Power plans to cut electricity in eight counties this Tuesday for maintenance work. Homes, businesses, and schools across Nairobi, Bungoma, Homa Bay, Nyamira, Nyeri, Laikipia, Embu, and Meru will experience these outages at different times. Most areas will lose power between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. The company needs this time to fix and upgrade its systems.

People living in Nairobi's General Mathenge Road, Donyo Sabuk Lane, Peponi Road, and nearby areas should prepare for no electricity from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Several apartment buildings, like Jacaranda and Ivory, will go dark during these hours. Total Spring Valley gas station and parts of Lower Kabete Road must also plan for the power cut.

Bungoma County residents in Matulo Village, Ben Captain, Wanyama, and Wamang'oli Primary should expect darkness from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Bokoli Market, Bokli Dispensary, Bukembe Market, Chebesi Secondary School, and other Matulo spots face the same schedule. The company asks everyone to charge their phones and finish important tasks before the morning shutdown begins.

Homa Bay faces a slightly shorter outage from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Major institutions, including Homabay Referral Hospital, County Offices, Tom Mboya University, and Homawasco, need backup plans. Local banks—KCB, Equity, Co-op Bank, and ABSA—must prepare for offline operations. Homabay Market, Shivling Supermarket, and Cold Spring businesses should warn customers about Tuesday's interruption.

Nyamira County starts earliest, with power disappearing from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. Corner S Resort, Motobo Market, and schools like Nyansabakwa Secondary face the cuts. Residents around Miruka Market, Bonyunyu Market, Bonyunyu Secondary School, and Rionyangi Market need alternative lighting and cooking methods during these hours.

Nyeri County communities around Kiangai Market, Kianyange Village, and local coffee factories will lose electricity from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Karerahungu Village, Bore Kero, and Thunguri Village must prepare for the full-day outage. Cell service might become spotty since Safaricom and Airtel boosters will shut down. Nearby farms and homes should finish essential electrical tasks early Tuesday morning.

Laikipia County residents across Olpejeta, Depatas, Tundra, and Freshigold conservation areas need backup plans from 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Zimbabwe, Segera, and New Daraja Academy staff should adjust class schedules around the power absence. Students might need paper instead of computers for afternoon lessons.

Embu County starts its maintenance at 8:30 a.m. and lasts until 5 p.m. Kwa Kingoli, Kiimani, Masinga Boys School, and Masinga Market must function without electrical systems all day. The Wendano, Kakuku, Ekalakala, and Kathini areas need similar preparation. Masinga Bible College, Mutwamwaki, and neighboring farms should expect complete darkness.

Meru County faces the longest outage, which lasts from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Healthcare centers like Igoki Dispensary and Cottolengo Mission Hospital must run generators. Schools, including Kiringo Boys High, Nkabune Girls High, and Nkabune Teachers Training College, face disruption. Market areas—Kathuri, Kanjagi, Gaitu, Chaaria, and Mbanjone—should warn shoppers about the Tuesday blackout. Police at Gaitu station need backup communication systems during the maintenance period.
