Kenya suspends referee over alleged harassment of protesters

Kenya's football leaders banned one referee after videos showed him attacking protesters. The football group saw clips on social media that caught the official bothering young people during rallies. Small protests have started around Nairobi as people remember last year's big demonstrations. Armed attackers hurt protesters during Tuesday's march against police violence. Many people filmed these attacks and shared them online.

Bernard Omondi leads the football group's local branch and started looking into what happened. The referee works games for smaller teams around Nairobi but cannot judge any more matches. Video proof showed him fighting against young protesters and police officers during Tuesday's events. He must face the group's punishment committee soon. More action will happen after leaders hear his side of the story.

Kenya's football world has dealt with cheating and fixed games for many years. Players and officials have lost their jobs because of these problems. The government shut down the main football group back in 2021 after finding corruption. Leaders tried to take legal action against football officials at that time. These latest events add more trouble to Kenya's already damaged football reputation.
