SDP suspends chairman Gabam, two others over alleged fund misuse

The Social Democratic Party kicked out three top officials after finding evidence of money crimes. Party leaders removed National Chairman Shehu Gabam from his position on Tuesday. Officials also suspended National Auditor Nze Nnadi Clarkson and National Youth Leader Uchechukwu Chukwuma. Party spokesman Araba Rufus Aiyenigba announced the suspensions. The three men lost their jobs right away.

Party rules allowed leaders to remove the officials under several constitutional articles. The National Working Committee voted to suspend all three men after reviewing financial records. Officials accused the suspended leaders of stealing party money for personal use. Leaders said the men moved funds from party accounts without permission. Evidence showed the three officials ran unauthorized money schemes.

The party constitution gave the National Working Committee power to remove corrupt officials. Leaders presented proof that linked the suspended men to illegal financial deals. The committee found evidence of embezzlement and money theft. Officials discovered the three men had enriched themselves using party funds. The suspended leaders face serious charges of financial wrongdoing.
