Kenyan Goalkeeper Lynched by Mob Over Phone Theft

A crowd killed Kenyan soccer player Eric Wafula after people accused him of stealing a phone. The angry mob beat Wafula and another person to death during the weekend attack. Community members used stones and heavy sticks against both men near Nairobi. Local reports say the group believed Wafula grabbed someone's mobile device during a street robbery. Police could not reach the scene fast enough to stop the violence.

Wafula faced similar accusations before and survived another mob attack. Officers rescued the goalkeeper from angry people during an earlier incident at Kariobangi. That previous case also involved claims about phone theft against the athlete. His soccer fame helped protect him from harm during past confrontations with suspicious crowds. The goalkeeper's reputation as a talented player saved his life multiple times.

Mathare FC released a statement about their former player's death. The soccer team called Wafula a skilled goalkeeper who deserved better treatment. Club officials expressed sadness over losing someone with great athletic ability. A police officer from John Saga Station said the player's talent usually kept him safe from trouble. The officer noted how unfortunate circumstances ended a promising sports career.
