Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan addressed the Sabarimala gold plating issue on Wednesday, calling the Opposition’s protests in the Legislative Assembly excessive, and praising the Speaker for managing the situation. He noted that although the Assembly had seen many protests, covering the Speaker’s face was a first. Vijayan said the government would consider any legitimate Opposition request, and it was prepared to answer all factual questions.
He accused the Opposition of spreading fear and causing distractions while stating that a High Court inspection was ongoing and that the Special Investigation Team was investigating the matter. Vijayan said no guilty party would be protected, and strict action would follow if necessary. He criticized the protest methods in the House, describing them as unacceptable. Protests have continued for three days, leading the Speaker to temporarily adjourn proceedings, while the Opposition plans a statewide demonstration demanding the resignation of the Devasom minister.
