Kesas Highway chaos as lorry spills chemicals, Shah Alam traffic snarls follow

A chemical truck accident shut down traffic on the Kesa Highway this morning after the vehicle rolled over and spilled hazardous materials across the roadway. Emergency responders reached the crash site at 10:40 a.m. following reports of the overturned container truck, which had been traveling toward Shah Alam. The overturned vehicle contained ten tanks, each holding 1,000 liters of liquid chemicals, including sulfur, Calcium Carbonate, and Titanium Oxide. Bystanders pulled the injured driver from the wreckage before firefighters arrived on the scene. Ahmad Mukhlis Mokhtar from the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department confirmed the driver suffered only minor injuries.

Fourteen emergency personnel from Shah Alam and Andalas fire stations responded to the incident alongside specialized hazardous materials teams. Crews awaited the arrival of heavy equipment contractors who would right the overturned truck and clear it from the roadway. The cleanup operation could not begin until workers safely moved the damaged vehicle and its remaining chemical cargo to the shoulder of the road. Traffic remained blocked in both directions as emergency teams established safety perimeters around the spill zone.
